The authorities have yet to reach dozens of areas in Jamaica, raising the question of how many people really died in last week’s storm.
Roads, infrastructure and the electricity grid were battered, and over one million people, a third of the population, were directly affected by the storm the official said.
At least two people in the town died, and its historical buildings were reduced to rubble.
A fast-developing storm was expected to bring “unprecedented” amounts of rain to several countries, meteorologists said.
